General

If you’re building a prototype or serving a small user base, Start is a good fit. Teams launching production apps typically choose Team for the full AI toolkit and advanced collaboration features. Growth and Enterprise are designed for large-scale deployments with dedicated infrastructure, higher document limits, and advanced support.

No. Only documents stored in Tiptap Cloud count toward your plan; documents in your own database do not.

Collaboration, and document history require Tiptap Cloud documents. AI and some Pro extensions need an active subscription for verification but can run without Cloud documents.

Tiptap’s core editor is Open Source. You can self‑host, extend it with your own extensions, and contribute via PRs. Cloud and Enterprise add managed infrastructure and support on top of the OSS core.

Tiptap Cloud runs on managed cloud infrastructure with regional options. Enterprise customers can choose private or on‑prem deployments. For data residency details, contact us.

Most features are available in both models. Advanced collaboration features require managed documents—either in Tiptap Cloud or in your own managed deployment (Enterprise). Check the plan comparison for specifics.

We consider discounts and programs case by case. Tell us about your project and team size on the contact page.

Plans & Pricing

Yes. Plans include a certain number of developer licenses. You can add as many developers as your plan allows, or talk to us about higher limits.

Typical Enterprise capabilities include on‑prem deployment, full API access, higher limits, data residency options, SLAs, early access to features, and direct engineering support. We tailor integrations and terms to your workflow.

No. The editor runs without the cloud. However, features like real‑time collaboration, comments, and document history require managed cloud documents (in Tiptap Cloud or an Enterprise on-prem deployment).

Each plan includes a document limit per environment. Only documents synced to the Tiptap Cloud count toward that limit. You can purchase additional document bundles as add‑ons; the add‑on fee is added to your base plan.

Account & Upgrades

Yes. You can upgrade from a legacy plan to any current plan at any time. Upgrading is one‑way: once you move to a current plan, you can’t switch back to legacy pricing or features. We’ll provide advance notice before we migrate all legacy plans to the current offering.

We’ll notify you before renewal. If a plan expires, paid features may stop working (for example, collaboration). Your data isn’t deleted; you can renew, change plans, or export your data over our REST API at any time.

Upgrade from the billing section in your dashboard or contact sales if you need a custom plan. Changes usually apply immediately; any pro‑rations appear on your next invoice.

Migration & Data

Your documents remain yours. If your usage exceeds the new plan’s limits, syncing and cloud‑dependent features may be restricted until you reduce usage or add capacity. You can export anytime.

Use the REST API to export documents and related data. You’ve got control over your data and you’re able to export documents before changing or cancelling a plan.

Yes. You can import common formats (e.g., DOCX with a paid plan) and convert them into Tiptap documents. Then, you can sync them to the cloud for collaboration and more.

Yes. Keep your editor integration and connect it to Tiptap Cloud for managed documents and collaboration. We provide APIs and guidance for migrating existing content.

Technical & Integrations

Yes. Use the APIs to create, import, export, and delete documents, as well as automate administrative tasks.

You can bring your own auth, storage, and AI models. Internal systems and third-party services can be integrated via webhooks in Cloud documents and via APIs.

Use the Open Source editor and, for managed document infrastructure, choose Enterprise for on‑prem deployments. We provide documentation and support for setup.

Security & Compliance

Tiptap completed a SOC 2 Type I audit. Type II is in progress (target Q4 2025). Reports are available to Enterprise customers and qualified prospects under NDA.

Yes, via Enterprise. We support on‑prem and private deployments; discuss requirements (networking, updates, and support model) with our team.

We follow industry best practices and provide compliance documentation on request. For certifications, audit support, and security questionnaires, contact sales.

Support & Community

Tiptap provides a framework‑agnostic core and official packages for popular stacks. Check the docs for current SDKs and examples.

Open an issue in our repositories for OSS components or contact support for paid features. Enterprise customers can use their private support channel and account manager.

All plans include access to documentation and community channels. Paid plans include support; Enterprise adds direct access to engineers (e.g., private Slack) and SLAs.
